Foire aux questions (FAQ)

What are the dates and times of this workshop?

You have three dates to choose from. Each of the three workshops is the same.

Do I need to show up live?

If you can’t show up live, you can watch the replay of the course. However, showing up live on Zoom is highly recommended. You’ll get the opportunity to speak and get feedback on your speaking. The pre-workshop lesson will prepare you to interact in the live class even if you’ve never heard of the subjunctive before! And chances are, you’ll make a new friend who’s learning French at your level.

However, if life gets in the way and you'd still love to join, make sure to register anyway in order to get the replay recording of the workshop.

Do I have the right level of French for this workshop?

If you feel comfortable speaking or reading in the present in French, you’ll be ready for this workshop. This workshop is geared toward intermediate learners (levels A2, B1, B2). If you’re an advanced learner (level C1), but are still avoiding using the subjunctive in your speech (I know because I’ve been there!), you will also benefit from this workshop.

Have a question about your level? Shoot me (Dr. Nat) an email at natalie@elevatefrench.com and I’ll get back to you soon!

Will there be a chance to ask questions during the workshop?

Mais oui! The last section of the live workshop is dedicated to your questions about the subjunctive.

Do I have to speak during this workshop?

The goal of this workshop is to give you confidence speaking in French while using the subjunctive. If you want to get the maximum benefit of this workshop, it’s recommended that you speak during the small breakout sessions where you’ll get to practice in a group with 2-4 other learners. If you still prefer not to speak during the workshop, just send me a chat during the live and I’ll do my best to leave you out of the practice breakout sessions.

Do I need to have my camera on during this workshop?

This is totally up to you! Feel free to leave your camera on for a personal touch with the other learners you'll be chatting with, or to turn it off if you prefer.

Do you have a refund policy?

There is no refund for this live workshop because it is a live, one-time event commitment. Not only do you get access to the live workshop, but also to the following bonuses: on demand video lesson, the Subjunctive Conjugation Cheatsheet, the replay, and the post workshop bank of practice activities.

Une note de

Dr. Nat

I can remember the “subjunctive chapter” year after year in French class. After the first iteration, I felt confident conjugating it if you gave me a fill-in-the-blank activity. After the second iteration, I could use certain expressions like “Il faut que,” but I still wasn’t sure when to use the subjunctive with doubt or emotion. It wasn’t until 5 years of learning French that I felt confident using the subjunctive in my everyday speech.

But this doesn’t have to be you!

I was disenchanted by the way that grammar was taught in the French classes I took. There was no emphasis on being able to actually use the grammar in real conversation. This was the case not only with the pesky subjunctive, but with most of the grammar that I learned. If your French schooling experience was anything like mine, maybe you’re in the same boat.

This lack of practical grammar guidance is what inspired me to pursue a PhD in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching from the University of Arizona. I wanted to understand how I could help adults achieve their dreams of speaking French without spending a decade on fill-in-the-blank activities.

My mission today is to give you the tools you need to speak French on your next trip to France or Québec or in your next work meeting with a Francophone.

This brand-new workshop, Mastering the Subjunctive in Everyday French, is related to my favorite topic to teach. Because I too struggled to learn the subjunctive, I know what you’re going through. My doctorate and 10 years teaching French have further equipped me with the research-backed tools to help you speak with more confidence and to retain what you’ve learned.

Your chance to take the leap into speaking French more fluidly and naturally is available to you right now!

You don’t need to know what the subjunctive is or how to use it, but you do need to be ready to step a foot or two outside of your comfort zone and speak French in our small group sessions in the workshop in order to reap the benefits. I always say “You can’t learn to speak French without speaking French,” and this holds true when it comes to using the subjunctive to speak about your dreams, desires, doubts, and needs.

J’ai trop hâte de te rencontrer et je sais que tu peux le faire!

I’m so excited to meet you and I know that you can do it!

Dr. Nat
